Two facing charges after fleeing from police in Napanee
Two people are facing criminal charges after fleeing in a stolen vehicle just before members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call in Napanee.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, officers were called to a residence in Napanee for a possible stolen vehicle. According to a release from the OPP, officers from Tyendinaga Police Service stopped the vehicle a short time later on Cannery Road.
OPP said that the vehicle’s two occupants fled from police on foot. According to the release, the female passenger was quickly arrested, while the male driver fled on foot into the woods.
The OPP Canine Unit and members of the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to assist in locating the driver, who, OPP said, was arrested a short time later. According to the release, the investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen.
Randall Gibson, 39 years old, of Centre Hastings, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – two counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Resist peace officer
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Bribery of officers
- Driving while under suspension – two counts
- Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed
Gibson was held in custody pending a bail hearing, OPP said.
Sherri Tremblay, 35 years old, of Quinte West, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – two counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Resist peace officer
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
Tremblay was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in July 2022.
