Update (Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020): According to Kingston Police, no suspect has been formally identified in the case of the stabbing at the corner of Division and Pine Streets in downtown Kingston.

“No arrests have been made,” said Const. Ash Gutheinz, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police.

Police did say that all those involved in the incident, including the deceased individuals — a 59-year-old male and a 39-year-old female — were acquainted.

“Kingston Police Major Crime detectives are prepared to state that this was an isolated matter, they do not believe the crime to be a random act of violence, nor a stranger-on-stranger incident,” Gutheinz said, noting that Kingston Police are not prepared to speak on the topic of possible motives at this early stage in the investigation.

“There is no reason to believe that there is a public safety concern at this time.”

Gutheinz relayed that Kingston Police are not prepared to release information regarding whether or not drugs played a factor in the incident at this stage in the investigation, either, and said that police will need to wait on toxicology results from the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS).

While police were not willing to speak to the number of weapons involved in the incident, they did say that a knife was involved and is “consistent with injuries to the deceased and the other injured party.”

Kingstonist will continue to look into this incident and provide updates as more information becomes available.
