Two charged after theft of tip jar from restaurant in downtown Kingston

A local man and woman have both been arrested and charged after a brazen robbery during the lunchtime rush in a downtown deli.
At approximately 12:31 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, police responded to a call regarding a theft that had just taken place at the Golden Rooster on Princess Street. A woman wearing a ski mask to conceal her identity entered the restaurant, stole the tip jar full of money, and then ran back out the front door.
According to Kingston Police, witnesses followed the accused woman outside, at which point she threatened that she had a gun. The accused woman then ran on foot, accompanied by a man, towards Brock Street.
Responding police officers chased the pair on foot, apprehending them on Johnson Street. The accused man was found to be in possession of the tip jar. Both the male and female were arrested.
The 19-year-old woman was charged with two counts of robbery, possession of stolen property under $5,000, disguise with intent, and three counts of breach of probation. The 26-year-old man was charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000.
