Two charged after collision in Prince Edward County

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals after a vehicle’s occupants fled the scene of a collision in Prince Edward County.

On the morning of Thursday, Apr. 27, 2023, the Prince Edward County Detachment of the OPP received a report of a single motor collision on County Road 1 near County Road 2. According to a release from the OPP, officers arrived on scene to discover the occupants had left the scene.

With the assistance of the East Region Canine Unit, officers located two individuals a short distance away. As a result of further investigation, the OPP determined the vehicle had been stolen, according to the release.

Tyler Lowe, age 22 from Quinte West, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Operating a motor vehicle while impaired with drugs detectable by blood test
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Theft of a motor vehicle under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking
  • Failure to remain at the scene of a collision
  • Failure to report an accident
  • Driving a motor vehicle with no licence

Dorean Geertsma, age 25 from Marmora and the Lake, was also arrested and charged with

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with a probation order
  • Failure to report an accident

The OPP said that both individuals were held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
