UPDATE: All lanes open – Transport fire closes Highway 401 eastbound

All eastbound lanes of Highway 401 have reopened after a transport fire caused a closure around 5:30 a.m. today, Monday, Jan. 24, 2022.

After a transport fire closed Highway 401 eastbound between the Montreal Street exit and the Highway 15 exit earlier this morning, OPP report that one eastbound lane is now open to traffic.
Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and tow vehicles are still on scene as the clean-up continues.

Highway 401 eastbound remains closed between the Montreal Street exit and the Highway 15 exit after a tractor-trailer fire closed the road earlier this morning.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, officers of the South Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to the transport truck fire. According to a release from the OPP, the transport trailer was carrying grocery goods. No injuries were reported.
OPP asks motorists to use alternate routes. Due to cold weather conditions, OPP said that reopening the road will be prolonged.
