OPP say that a Kingston transport driver has been charged with Careless Driving following an early morning collision on the 401 near Deseronto on Thursday.

“At approximately 5:00 AM on August 12, 2021 officers from the Lennox & Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a transport truck collision on Highway 401 in Greater Napanee,” said OPP in a release.

According to police, the eastbound transport truck, driven by a 58 year-old Kingston resident, left the roadway and entered the ditch near mile marker #572. Police say the truck remained upright, but became mired in a swampy area in the north ditch at the fence line, requiring a heavy equipment to extract it from the ditch.

OPP say that while nobody was injured in the crash, the driver of the transport truck was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

“In order to facilitate the recovery of the truck and its cargo the eastbound driving lane of the 401 between Deseronto Road and County Rd #41 will be closed beginning at 7:00 p.m. on August 12, 2021,” OPP say. Police estimate that the recovery will take between 6 and 8 hours to complete.
