On Tuesday, Jun. 9, 2020, the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced it has laid charges in connection with the fatal collision that occurred in January of this year.

That collision, involving a pedestrian who later died from injuries sustained, took place on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020 on Highway 7 in Central Frontenac Township at approximately 5:45 a.m.

The preliminary investigation into the incident found that Wayne Kimberley, 64, had been walking along the north shoulder of the highway that day when he was struck by a vehicle. That vehicle then left the scene, and Kimberley was taken to hospital by Frontenac Paramedics, but passed away as a result of his injuries.

A lengthy investigation by the OPP led to transport driver Mahaveer Jain, 57, of Brampton being charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
  • Failing to stop at an accident resulting in death

According to the OPP, Jain was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston at a later date.
