Tournoi Franco-Ontarien brings three days of hockey en français to Kingston

Editorial note: The following is a submitted article from Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est regarding the Franco-Ontarian hockey tournament taking place this week.
On Tuesday, Apr. 11, 2023, the first teams participating in the intermediate Franco-Ontarian hockey tournament organized by École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier will lace up their skates at Kingston’s INVISTA Centre. With over 20 hockey teams from across Ontario facing off on April 11, 12 and 13, the tournament promises as much fun on the ice as in the stands.
The tournament includes one division exclusively for girls and three co-ed A, AA, and AAA divisions.

U14 (grades 7 and 8) students from École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier Dragons will compete against teams from across the province in the AA division.
Most of the team’s 17 players are part of Marie-Rivier’s Hockey Skills Academy. Many play on various teams across the region during the regular season, including the Church Athletic League, the Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association, the Loyalist Township Minor Hockey Association, the Napanee District Minor Hockey Association, as well as at the AAA level with the Greater Kingston Hockey Association and the Greater Kingston Girls Hockey Association. Team members have been gaining experience and learning to play together since the beginning of the season. They even won the Cougar Cup on December 21, 2022, in Mississauga.
In French, s’il vous plaît!
The tournament is an opportunity not only to enjoy the benefits of the sport, but also for Francophones to gather and play hockey with their peers while strengthening their sense of belonging to the Franco-Ontarian community.
