Three people charged with multiple offences after fleeing OPP

Three people were charged after fleeing an OPP traffic stop on Highway 401 near Napanee.
At approximately 8 p.m. on October 28, 2020, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol and observed a vehicle travelling on Highway 401 eastbound without proper licence plates.
According to an OPP report dated Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, officers initiated a traffic stop. The driver initially stopped and then fled while police were investigating. OPP say the vehicle exited the 401 at Palace Road and a tire deflation device was used to stop the vehicle as it was observed driving in a dangerous manner.
Eventually, the vehicle came to rest in a field off of County Road 4. The vehicles three occupants fled on foot. OPP apprehended three people and transported them to L&A County Detachment.
Rachael Nathella Star Sweet, age 24, of Tweed is charged with:
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle,
- Fail to comply with Probation order,
- Obstruct Peace officer,
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over 5000, and
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance.
Sweet was held for a bail hearing and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on October 29, 2020
Myles Lessard, age 26, of Kingston is charged with the following offences:
- Obstruct Peace Officer,
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000,
- Failure to comply with undertaking,
- Two counts of Possession of weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance.
Jerry Allen Leeman, age 27, of Kingston is charged with the following offences:
- Obstruct Peace Officer,
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000,
- Possession of weapon for a Dangerous Purpose,
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance.
Lessard and Leeman were released and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in January 2021.
