Three Gaels teams defeat nationally-ranked teams over weekend

The weekend of Friday, Jan. 24 to Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 saw six of Queen’s University’s teams compete on the varsity stage, and three of them pick up big wins over some stiff competition.

The men’s and women’s volleyball, hockey, and basketball teams all saw touch matchups over the weekend, and the women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, and men’s hockey teams finished those games victorious. The women’s volleyball team ended the Toronto Varsity Blues’ 10-game winning streak with a 3-2 win at home on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020. The men’s hockey team beat out the No. 9 nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, and the men’s basketball team upset the No. 10 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders 97-95 in Hamilton the same night.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL – Tricolour team effort helps Gaels snap No.4 Toronto’s 10 game win streak in five-set thriller, fall to No.3 Rams

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 25, 2020) – The Queen’s Gaels (9-5) picked up a huge win at the ARC on Saturday over the No.4 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues (10-2) 3-2 snapping Toronto’s 10 game winning streak in the process.

MEN’S HOCKEY – Campbell, Margo lead Gaels past No.9 Gee-Gees, Queen’s takes Carr-Harris Preview

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 24th, 2020) – Eric Margo scored two to aid the Gaels (10-11-2) to a victory over the No.9 nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees (15-6-3) on Friday night in OUA men’s hockey action.

MEN’S BASKETBALL – Keefe posts 17 and 16 while Gray scores 36 as Gaels upset No.10 McMaster, Syllas brothers notch double-doubles in win at Brock

HAMILTON (January 24, 2020) – The Queen’s Men’s Basketball team (9-6) upset the No.10 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders (9-6) with a score of 97-95 on Friday night.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL – No.7 Gaels defeat Rams but fall to No.8 Varsity Blues 3-1 in nail-biting match on Bell Let’s Talk night
KINGSTON, Ont. (January 25, 2020)- The No.7 Queen’s Gaels (9-4) were evenly matched against the No.8 Toronto Varsity Blues (10-1) this Saturday evening but were unable to secure the win. The Varsity Blues took the four-set match 3-1.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – No. 6 Gaels drop pair of games including loss to No.9 Badgers in battle of nationally-ranked teams
ST. CATHERINES, Ont. (January 25, 2020) – The No. 7 nationally-ranked Queen’s Women’s Basketball team (9-7) were defeated by the Brock Badgers (13-3) with a score of 81-64 on Saturday night.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY – Desa’s goal isn’t enough as Ontario Tech defeats the Gaels 2-1 on Bell Let’s Talk night

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 25th, 2020) – The Queen’s Gaels (7-8-1-1) fell to the visiting Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (2-13-3-1) late game push 2-1.
