Taxi driver charged after collision on Highway 2 in Napanee

An afternoon collision that closed down a section of Highway 2 in Napanee has resulted in charges for one of the drivers involved, according to police.
On Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2023, officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to Highway 2 after a report of a two-vehicle collision on the highway that occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. The collision occurred just west of Oliver Side Road on Highway 2, and saw paramedics and fire crews attend the scene.
The collision involved a white Toyota Yaris with a driver and single passenger and a Napanee Cab taxi with a driver and two passengers, according to the L&A OPP. In response to Kingstonist inquiries, Constable David Yome, Media Relations Officer for the L&A OPP, said that both people in the Yaris were transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.

“A taxicab was following another vehicle down Highway 2. The lead vehicle was slowing down and attempting a turn when the taxi pulled out into the passing lane and struck the lead vehicle,” Yome said.
The taxi driver and the two passengers in the cab were uninjured, according to police.
Following investigation, the OPP charged the driver of the taxi with attempting to pass when the roadway is unclear – overtaking traffic, Yome said.
