Suspected drone drop intercepted at Bath Institution

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has seized a package of contraband intended to make its way inside Bath Institution, a medium-security facility.

According to CSC, the package was a suspected drone drop, and was seized on the perimeter of Bath Institution “as the result of the vigilance of staff members” on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

The package contained four grams of shatter (cannabis concentrate), a cell phone and accessories, CSC said in a release dated Monday, May 30, 2022.

A number of tools are used by the CSC to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, according to the release. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has measures in place to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions,” CSC said in the release.

“CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.”
