UPDATE: Suspect facing several charges following Millhaven incident

On Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, the OPP released information regarding further charges laid in connection with an incident involving a firearm in Bath shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020.

Bradley Ryan Smith, age 27, of Loyalist Township has now been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a vehicle
  • Two counts of Assault
  • Mischief for interfering with lawful use of property
  • Take Motor Vehicle without consent
  • Theft under 5000.00
  • Use Firearm while committing an offence
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited weapon obtained by crime

OPP say the accused is still in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on December 4, 2020.

The investigation remains ongoing by the L&A County OPP Crime Unit. OPP are now releasing more information on an incident involving a firearm in the Millhaven area on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020.

On November 26, 2020, shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a family dispute on Bath Road in Loyalist Township. OPP say a victim had been assaulted, with the assailant then fleeing in a vehicle.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., police say they received a call about a road rage incident on Taylor-Kidd Boulevard. The vehicle, which had left the earlier scene, was observed by a witness being driven in an erratic manner. OPP say there was an altercation with the other driver, who was assaulted. During this incident a firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was discharged. There were no serious injuries as a result of this incident. The attacker subsequently fled on foot.

L&A County OPP members, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit conducted an intensive search of the area. The OPP utilized the Alert Ready emergency system to broadcast a message to all cell phones in the area, as well as through radio and television broadcasts.

The suspect was arrested, without incident, at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Bradley Ryan Smith, age 27, of Loyalist Township has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault  
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle

He was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on November 27, 2020

The investigation remains ongoing by the L&A County OPP Crime Unit.
