Kingston Police are thanking the public for their assistance after the arrest of a suspect in the case of two break ins at a high school in the city’s west end.

Residents in the area around Frontenac Secondary School reported a large police presence around the high school on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. Kingstonist followed up with Kingston Police who, at the time, stated that officers responded to the reports of a break and enter in progress at Frontenac Secondary on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024; information obtained indicated that the suspect in the break in may still be in the building, police said on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024. The Kingston Police Canine Unit was brought in to search the school for the suspect, but did not locate anyone.

However, in a press release on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, Kingston Police detailed that the suspect in the break and enter had returned to Frontenac Secondary School on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, and broke into the building again.

During both incidents, the suspect was captured on security footage, stills from which police released to the public in the hopes of assistance in identifying the individual. According to police, it appears nothing was taken from the school in either break-and-enter incident.

In a follow-up with Kingstonist on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, Constable Anthony Colangeli, a Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police, disclosed that a suspect had been arrested in relation to the break-ins at Frontenac Secondary.

“The Kingston Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. The suspect in this matter has been identified,” Colangeli said.

According to Colangeli, the suspect was arrested at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024. The 35-year-old Kingston resident has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering, and was held at Kingston Police Headquarters pending a bail hearing today, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024. Police did not identify the accused individual.

Kingstonist has inquired with police as to where the suspect was arrested. This article will be updated if/when more information becomes available.
