Support people living with dementia at Walk for Alzheimer’s

With spring now underway and signs of summer on the horizon, the Alzheimer Society of KFLA is once again urging the community to support the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.
The Walk raises crucial funds that allow the Alzheimer Society of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFLA) to offer programs and services to meet the needs of people living with Alzheimer’s Disease and/or other forms of dementia in the KFL&A area, as well as their caregivers. According to a release from the Society, the number of people in Canada living with dementia is rising rapidly. By the year 2050, more than 1.7 million people will be living with dementia in acrpss the country. As the number of people affected by dementia increases, so does the need for services.
This year the Walk for Alzheimer’s will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the CaraCo Home Track and Field at the Invista Centre. A social hour will take place from 11 a.m. to noon — everyone is welcome to bring lawn chairs and/or set up a tent area to spend the afternoon. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., and the opening ceremonies will take place at noon.
According to the release, media sponsors will be on site for the day playing music, emceeing the ceremony, and inviting participants — who raise funds through pledges — to introduce their team and who they are walking for. The Society stated there will be entertainment, games, craft, and vendors on site. Closing ceremonies will take place at 3 p.m.
