Strong wind warning in effect for eastern Lake Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a strong wind warning for eastern Lake Ontario, forecasting waves of up to two metres later today.

Winds forecast for Friday, Jun. 14 to Saturday, Jun. 15, 2019

“Wind west 25 knots backing to southwest 20 this afternoon then diminishing to southwest 15 Saturday morning. Wind increasing to southwest 20 Saturday afternoon then diminishing to southwest 15 Saturday evening,” Environment Canada said at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jun. 14, 2019.

Waves forecast for Friday, Jun. 14 to Saturday, Jun. 15, 2019

Waves could reach two metres, subsiding to one and one half metres early this evening, and to one metre near noon on Saturday.

Showers ended near noon today. Showers beginning Saturday morning. Fog patches forming Saturday evening.

 

Please exercise caution on and around Lake Ontario. With the water levels in Lake Ontario already surpassing those experienced in 2017, the winds may cause flooding of properties that are lake adjacent.
