Stone Mills woman charged with impaired driving in Trenton

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Stone Mills driver following a routine traffic stop in Trenton.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Lorne Avenue in Trenton for a Highway Traffic Act violation, according to a release from OPP, dated Monday, Mar, 1, 2021. OPP say because the driver was displaying signs of alcohol consumption, a roadside screening test was administered, and as a result the driver was arrested for impaired operation. 

The accused was transported to the Quinte West Detachment for testing where blood alcohol limits were determined to be in excess of the legal limit, according to the release. OPP say the officer further located open alcohol in the possession of a passenger, who was subsequently charged under the Liquor License Act for having liquor in an open container in other than a license premises. 

Shauna Kelly, 21 years old of Stone Mills Township was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 18, 2021. Kelly’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days. They will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
