One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 37, just outside of Belleville, on Wednesday, Jun. 12, 2024.

Central Hastings Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the crash at the intersection of Boundary and Shannonville Roads shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, police explained in a media release the following day.

A pick-up truck travelling westbound on Shannonville Road collided with an SUV heading south on Highway 37, police stated. As a result of the collision, the pick-up entered a water-filled ditch and rolled over.

“Several civilians tried to remove the driver from the vehicle but were unable to do so,” police said.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Stone Mills Township, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Police noted there was no one else in that vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a Kingston trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and other members of the Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team.
