New and existing business owners who are either launching a new venture or have been in business for less than five years now have an opportunity to pitch for up to $5,000 to support their business operations.

Starter Company Plus, offered through Kingston Economic Development Corporation (Kingston EcDev) with funding from the Government of Ontario, is now accepting applications for their competitive program, according to a release from Kingston EcDev, dated Monday, Apr. 12, 2021.

“This program gives both existing and potential entrepreneurs an opportunity to learn how to either grow their businesses or to learn how to launch new businesses,” said Norman Musengimana, Business Development Manager, Small Business & Entrepreneurship. “The bootcamp component is conducted by an expert, who has been leading entrepreneurship and business planning training programs for many years, a great opportunity to learn directly from an experience facilitator. The program is very competitive, but we have seen many businesses stem from it over the years.”

Through Starter Company Plus, business owners can:

  • Get one-on-one guidance from a Small Business Enterprise Centre advisor
  • Participate in business workshops, seminars  or networking events
  • Topics range from writing a business plan to budgeting to marketing campaigns
  • Talk to a mentor with experience in starting, expanding or buying a small business

Participants will be required to attend in a weeklong virtual business bootcamp, where they will receive valuable insights into business start-up and expansion as well as business plan templates such as cash flow projections and business plans, according to the release.

The business training will be facilitated by Andrew Patricio, owner and founder of BizLaunch, who has trained over 100,000 entrepreneurs worldwide. BizLaunch also works with small business owners who are thinking about starting a business, preparing to launch or currently running one.

“Building a company is already a daunting feat for many individuals, but when coupled with a global pandemic, it’s exponentially more difficult,” said Sean Monteiro, founder of Bounce and a successful 2020 Starter Company Plus Kingston participant. “The Starter Company Plus program did an incredible job helping Bounce focus on adapting to these unprecedented times and how to continue building a sustainable business- all in a time efficient manner.”

Spots are limited and applications are open until Friday, Apr. 23, 2021. To learn more about Starter Company Plus, eligibility criteria, and how to apply visit
