Staff member assaulted at Millhaven Institution
At approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, a staff member at Millhaven Institution was assaulted, according to a press release from Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The staff member was injured and was evaluated and treated at an outside hospital. The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken, CSC said. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the institution are currently investigating the incident.
Normal operations will resume when it is considered safe to do so, and regularly scheduled visits may be affected. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution direction.
CSC will investigate the circumstances of the incident and continue working with police.
“Safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remain the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the press release said.
Millhaven Institution is a maximum security federal institution housing approximately 500 inmates.
