Jr. Varsity team set to host East Division finals

On the heels of a victory over the Burlington Stampeders on Sunday, Jul. 21, 2019, the Junior Gaels Football Club Jr. Varsity will host the Eastern Division Finals this coming weekend.

“A touchdown by Gabe Burke-Burfoot, a field goal by Michael Dora and another huge game by the defence, including an interception by Talen Sherbert with just 30 seconds to go clenched the victory for the junior varsity team,” Junior Gaels Football President Alexandra Reyes-Walsh said in a press release on Monday, Jul. 22, 2019..

The Junior Varsity team held the lead for the entire game. The 13-10 win gives the team home-field advantage for the eastern final. The Ontario Provincial Football League (OPFL) East Division Conference Finals game kicks off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jul. 27 at Richardson Stadium against the Durham Dolphins.

The winner of the east division will travel to London, Ontario on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 to face the OPFL west division winner for the Provincial title.

Despite a well-fought game on Saturday, the season came to an abrupt end for the Senior Varsity team following a 14-7 loss to the Ottawa Sooners.
