Impaired driving charge laid after OPP stop speeder on 401

Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) witnessed a vehicle speeding on highway 401 eastbound at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020.

A traffic stop was initiated at the Greater Napanee exit, and, OPP say, the smell of alcohol was detected. According to a release dated Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, officers utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD) during the investigation, and the driver was arrested and taken to the L&A County Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Kane Blay, age 28, of Oshawa has been charged with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; and,
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in December 2020. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Blay will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
