Speeding enforcement on 401 leads to location of stolen vehicle near Odessa

A high-end sports car speeding along Highway 401 eastbound from the Quinte West area was the topic of reports to the Ontario Provincial Police on the afternoon of Saturday, Jul. 21, 2021.
At approximately 4 p.m. officers of the Highway Safety Division (HSD) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the reports, and, in a media release dated Wednesday, Aug 18, 2021, OPP said multiple complaints were received about the manner in which the vehicle was being operated.
Police located the vehicle, a stolen Audi R8, on Highway 401 near Odessa and initiated a traffic stop, according to the release. The vehicle was reported stolen to Peel region police on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021. Officers seized both the licence plates and the vehicle as part of the investigation.
On Wednesday, 18 Aug. 2021, OPP HSD arrested Ian Aberdeen, age 49, of Brampton and Michela Paolini, age 31, of York Region. Both have been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
Aberdeen was also charged with using plates not authorized for the vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Both accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in October 2021.
