Earlier this week a driver on Highway 401 was stopped by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for speeding, and is now facing impaired driving charges.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, officers of the Highway Safety Division of the OPP responded to a report of an erratic driver that was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Palace Road, according to a release from the OPP.

Police located the vehicle and observed that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, according to the release. A traffic stop was initiated and OPP said the officer determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for processing.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged Robert Harvey, age 33, of South Frontenac Township with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drug;
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit; and
  • Speeding

Harvey was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in November 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Harvey will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
