South Frontenac invites everyone to join in — and clean up — during Pitch-In Week. This year, Pitch-In Week takes place the week of Earth Day, April 15 to 25, and will see residents and community groups come together to help clean up roadsides and green spaces to keep South Frontenac beautiful.

In a media release, the Township shared that it’s easy to pitch in. “You can pick up garbage by yourself, with your family or neighbours, or organize a group,” they noted.

The Township shared the following details on how to get involved:

  • South Frontenac provides special biodegradable yellow pitch-in bags free of charge to residents. No garbage tag is required. You can pick up the bags at local retailers who sell our garbage bag tags or from our 2490 Keeley Road or 4432 George Street offices between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. starting Monday, Apr. 15, 2024.
  • Put out bags with your regular garbage collection the week of April 22. Only the special yellow bags or clear bags provided will be collected without a garbage tag.
  • With the early spring, we know some residents may have bags left from previous years and want to pitch in early. We ask you to hold on to any bags collected and put them out the week of April 22 when we have resources to handle the extra volumes.
  • Township staff will be out roadside on April 17 to help with the cleanup, so please watch for crews on the side of the road.
  • Have fun and share your experience on social media tagging @SouthFrontenacTownship using #PitchinSF or submit a photo to [email protected].

In the release, South Frontenac reminds everyone to watch for traffic, be road-wise, be visible, wear protective gear, especially gloves and appropriate footwear, and call the Township at 613-376-3027 x 4330 if you need help.

“Earth Day is Monday, April 22, 2024. The theme for this year is Sustainable Mobility, since 43 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions originate from cars and transportation. This Earth Day, try carpooling, walking or biking if you are running errands or commuting to work,” the Township concluded.

  • For years now I have pitched in and took the time to pick up and bag litter on our road. This year I will not. It has become too dangerous.

Last Fall the Township came down our road with a large stump grinder and tornado groomed the road sides leaving trees badly damaged with dangling branches, ditches filled with large chunks of broken branches and debris and the ground inundated deadly spearheaded underbrush. If the Township would like us to pitch in maybe they could come and clean up their mesh and remove the spearheads so that the ditches are save to walk in. Jim Mulder.
