The Township of South Frontenac is encouraging residents to decorate their yards and houses for the holiday season. Festive households can enter the South Frontenac Shines Holiday Lights Contest by filling out an entry form before December 9, 2020.

Entries well be evaluated by a panel of judges in two categories; the Winter Wonderland Award (best overall theme), and the Clark Griswold Award (over the top decorations). A third category, the Elf’s Choice Award, will be awarded to the house with the most ‘likes’ on the Township’s Facebook post of the entries. The winning house in each category will win a $75 gift certificate to a local business of their choosing, according to a release from the Township of South Frontenac, dated Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020.

“We received great feedback on the Spooky South Frontenac House Decorating Contest,” says Tim Laprade, Recreation & Arena Supervisor. “We are looking forward to the continued community spirit and participation in this next contest through the holiday season.”

To be considered, residents must submit the entry and consent form found on the Township website and agree to have their display promoted by the Township, including photos of their display and street address, according to the release. The panel of judges consists of members of South Frontenac Council, members of the Program & Events Recreation Committee, and Township staff.

“It will be more important than ever to support our local businesses through this holiday season; this contest encourages the community to do so,” says Mayor Ron Vandewal. “Touring our villages to view holiday lights is already a tradition for some families, we hope this contest will inspire even more people to explore their own back yards.”

During the evenings of December 11th, 12th and 13th, the judges will tour around the Township and evaluate the entries. The winners will be announced December 18th, and South Frontenac families will be encouraged to visit the participating houses as a safe and socially distanced holiday activity until December 26th.

Entry to the contest closes December 9th, and participants must have their display operational in the evenings from December 11th – 26th. For more contest details and to enter, visit www.southfrontenac.net/en/things-to-do/sports-and-activities.aspx
