Something Special Children’s Centre, CUPE reach tentative agreement

After a long period of negotiations, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) workers and Something Special Children’s Centre have reached a tentative agreement

According to CUPE, the Local 3625 and the childcare facility sat down on the morning of Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 for the second time in two weeks. The employees have been locked out since Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, as they had formally announced strike action would begin Monday, Nov. 4, 2019.

“Details will not be shared until the members of CUPE 3625 have an opportunity to review the agreement and vote,” the union said in a press release on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019.

That ratification vote is to take place over the weekend, and Something Special Children’s Centre will be open on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, pending that ratification.

Representatives from Something Special Children’s Centre were not immediately available for comment. Kingstonist will continue to monitor this situation and update this article as more information becomes available.
