Six Gaels rowers set to represent Canada this summer

Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) announced the selections of the U23 and Pan American teams representing Canada this summer at the World Rowing U23 Championships and the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Five Gaels were announced to the teams bringing the Queen’s rowing contingent up to six representing Canada this summer after Gavin Stone made his debut with the men’s eight claiming a bronze medal at the World Rowing Cup 2 last weekend in Poland.

Louise Munro, Charlotte Deacon, Michael Bryenton and Megan Stellato were all named to the U23 national team while Alex Bernst was named to the Lima 2019 Pan American Games team.

Munro was named to the women’s single while Deacon will team up with coxswain Stellato in the women’s coxed four with Kailani Marchak, Brenna Randall and Claire Dirks completing the boat.

In the men’s double Bryenton will be teaming up with Tyler Adams.

In the Pan Am games, Bernst will be competing in the lightweight double sculls teaming up with Joshua King.

Canada will be sending eight boats to compete at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida, USA, from July 24 to 28. The rowing competition at the Pan American Games will take place from Friday, July 26 to August 11 at Albufera Medio Mundo in Huacho.

In support of the NextGen athletes, RCA has launched the 2019 #RCANextGen fundraising campaign to reduce fees associated with international competition. For the third year in a row, RCA aims to ensure that athletes do not face financial barriers to represent Canada on the world stage.

Last year, Canadians generously contributed to the campaign and raised $67,784 for five NextGen teams. To make a contribution and help Canada’s rowers focus on giving their all on the water, please visit fundrazr.com/RCANEXTGEN2019
