SIU invokes mandate after Odessa resident’s fall from highway overpass

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate in order to investigate the circumstances surrounding an Odessa resident’s fall from a bridge following an interaction with OPP near Odessa on Saturday morning.

On February 20, 2021 shortly after 3:00 a.m., members of the Lennox & Addington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a distraught person at the overpass on Old Wilton Road in Odessa.

On arriving, officers say they located an 18-year-old person from Odessa on the overpass over the 401. Officers say they attempted to approach the individual, but the person fell off the bridge, suffering life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital for medical attention.

The highway has since been re-opened. The OPP has notified the Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate, and as a result the OPP say they will not be able to provide any further information.
