Shots fired leads to weapons, drug charges for Deseronto man

On the weekend, officers from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several weapon-related calls in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, officers attended a residence on Lajoie Road after the complainants advised they had heard gunshots in the area, according to a media release from the OPP.

With assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit, officers located a suspect who had shot at a residence before fleeing the scene. The OPP said that no one was injured as a result of this incident.

Damian Shelley-Gaston, aged 25, of Deseronto, Ontario was arrested and charged under the with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a loaded or restricted firearm – two counts
  • Possession of firearm/ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine – two counts

Shelley-Gaston was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on October 6, 2022
