Earlier this month, Kingston residents were invited to get involved and come up with creative names for the nameless City of Kingston snowplow. The City has weighed all the suggestions and has released the shortlist of contenders for the large winter vehicle’s name, which are now open for public voting.

“We have been so pleased with the community engagement on the Name our Plow campaign,” said Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste for the City of Kingston.

“We received more than 480 submissions and our committee had the challenge of narrowing the list down to eight finalists for voting. There were some very clever and creative names submitted and we thank everyone who took the time to suggest one. We are really looking forward to seeing the name that the community votes for and we’ll be unveiling the winning name on December 11.”

The eight finalists are as follows:

Best in Snow
Blizzard Buster
Buzz Ice Clearer
Ker Plow
Murney Plower
Scoopy Doo
Snow Belle
Snow Problem

Kingston residents can vote for their favourite name until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023. Visit the Get Involved Kingston page for more information and to cast your vote.

According to the City of Kingston, “snowplowing is serious business,” with City employees working “continuously in the winter to plow more than 1,800 km of roadways and 600 km of sidewalks” in the snowy weather.

Residents can learn more about the City’s snow removal services – including regulations around on-street parking during times of snowfall – on the City of Kingston website.
