Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kingston and area

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Kingston and the area on Wednesday, Jul. 8, 2020.
The watch is in effect for the Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee and Consecon areas, and advises that situations are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms possibly capable of producing strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain.
“A few thunderstorms may hit severe thunderstorm warning criteria this afternoon or early this evening. The main threats are heavy downpours and wind gusts to 90 kilometres per hour,” Environment Canada said.
“Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
The national weather agency advises that the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that people take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
