Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Kingston and area

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Kingston and the area for the afternoon and evening of Monday, Aug. 24, 2020.
In effect for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee and Consecon, the watch advises that Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 100 km/h and large, nickle-sized hail.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” Environment Canada said in the statement.
“The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
