Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Kingston and area
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kingston and the area on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019.
The warning has been issued for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park, and states that severe thunderstorms with local damaging wind gusts are possible this afternoon and early evening.
“Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front in areas near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay by early afternoon,” the warning reads. “These storms are then expected to track southeastward across southern Ontario during the afternoon and early evening hours. The storms will likely move through the GTA late this afternoon.”
The national weather agency said that damaging wind gusts may be associated with some of these storms, as well as torrential downpours, frequent lightning and hail.
“There will also be the risk for an isolated tornado,” Environment Canada said.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends the public take cover if adverse weather approaches.
