Serious crash closes 401 at Lansdowne

The 401 westbound was closed for several hours in the Lansdowne area after a serious multi-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon sent multiple people to hospital.
OPP say that one person was airlifted by ORNGE helicopter with serious injuries. Several others involved in the 3-vehicle crash sustained less serious injuries and were transported by land ambulance.
For a time after the crash, both directions of the 401 were stopped as first responders were dispatched to the scene. The eastbound lanes reopened shortly thereafter.
Westbound lanes were closed for the collision investigation until approximately 1:30 a.m. the next day.
Terrible how the traffic was handled.Crossing the border back to Canada on 137 there was nothing telling drivers it was closed west bound. There was no reason to have waited so long to notify on coming wb traffic on 137 that there was a problem.Even fire rescue was not informed and came up 137.
3 hour delay. THOUSANDS of vehicles stopped with engines shut off to save fuel… who knows how so many managed to make it that long without washrooms. No word on injuries sustained, cause of accident, vehicles involved, or why it took so long to reopen..
