Seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Collins Bay Institution

A fairly large seizure took place at the medium security unit of Collins Bay Institution on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019.

The seizure of a package took place at approximately 5 p.m. “as a result of the vigilance of staff members,” according to a press release from Correctional Service Canada (CSC) on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. The package contained both contraband and unauthorized items.

Among the items seized were:

• Mini cell phones and chargers
• Ceramic blades
• Rolling papers
• 124.6 grams of marijuana

The total estimated institutional value of the seizure is $15,000, CSC said. Local police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
