Update: located – Search for missing child in South Frontenac

UPDATE (Wednesday, Mar. 31, 2021): On the afternoon of Wednesday, Mar. 31, 2021, three-year-old Jude Leyton was located safely by the search and rescue team being overseen by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Original article:

Frontenac OPP, fire crews and paramedics remain on the scene of a search for a missing toddler on Canoe Lake Rd, in South Frontenac on Monday evening. The child, three-year-old Jude Leyton, has been missing since around 11:00 a.m. of Sunday, Mar. 28, 2021.

Additional OPP resources, including the K-9 unit, an ice rescue team, and a search helicopter, have also been on scene to assist.

At this time, OPP say that, in order to preserve the area for the search, they are not seeking volunteers to assist, and that in some cases, parked civilian vehicles are actually blocking roads for emergency vehicles.

“While we appreciate the offer of help, volunteer searchers are not required at this time. Please avoid the area,” said an OPP release. “Extra bodies could interfere with canine and aerial search.”

Additionally, OPP are concerned that well-meaning searchers could themselves get lost, especially as nighttime falls.

More to come.
