Search finds unauthorized items, weapons at Joyceville Institution

The lockdown at the assessment unit of Joyceville Institution has ended following the completion of an exceptional search, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The lockdown of the assessment unit was put in place on Friday, Jul. 5, 2019 to allow the search to take place. CSC said at the time that the search had been ordered to assure the safety and security of the Institution, its staff, and inmates.
According to CSC, a number of unauthorized items, including weapons, were found as a result of the exceptional search.
The institution has returned to normal operations, and visits to the institution have resume, CSC said in a press release on Monday, Jul. 15, 2019.
