UPDATE (12 p.m.): The westbound off ramp of Highway 401 at Montreal Street is now reopened.
The westbound off ramp of Highway 401 at Montreal Street will be closed for several hours today, Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, as Frontenac County OPP, assisted by OPP Collision Reconstructionist and OPP Technical Collision Investigation Team members, will be investigating a rollover single vehicle collision which occurred shortly after midnight this morning.
A report from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stated that on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, shortly before midnight, a member of the Frontenac County Detachment of the OPP attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 401 westbound in Kingston for a traffic violation.
The vehicle had stopped, but then fled as the officer approached it, according to the report. The vehicle exited the highway on Highway 15. OPP say another officer in the area also attempted to stop the vehicle, and that OPP cruiser was struck by the vehicle. Officers terminated their pursuit due to concerns for public safety, according to the report.
Shortly after midnight this morning, October 26, 2020, the OPP responded to a single vehicle rollover collision, involving the same vehicle, on the westbound 401 off ramp at Montreal Street in Kingston. OPP say a 31-year-old female was transported to hospital by Frontenac County Paramedics with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The OPP has notified the Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. We will provide updates as they become available.
