Rockin’ the Square, a free live performance presented by the City of Kingston, returns this summer. In late July, JUNO and Polaris Music Prize-winning artist Haviah Mighty will take to the stage in Springer Market Square and everyone is invited.

“We are ecstatic to welcome Haviah Mighty to the Springer Market stage. Music fans of all ages can anticipate a show that will have them up and dancing all night to Haviah’s award-winning sounds,” said Jayson Duggan, Performing Arts Manager.

According to a release from the City, Haviah Mighty is a hip-hop artist from Brampton, Ont., and has spent her lifetime developing her skills as a songwriter, vocalist, producer, and performer, culminating in a style of profound introspection and incisive socio-political critique. Her “dynamic combinations of rap, song, and instrumental transition seamlessly from hip-hop to soul to afrobeats with a meticulous flow and cadence that transcends any traditional expectation of genre,” the City stated. Earlier this year, she won a JUNO for Rap Album of the Year.

The free concert will start at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jul. 29, 2022, and will take place rain or shine, according to the release.

Past Rockin’ the Square performances have featured artists such as Moist, Arkells, The Trews, Big Sugar, Sarah Harmer, 54-40, Cold Creek County, Platinum Blonde with Spoons, Wintersleep, David Wilcox, Classic Albums Live and Hawksley Workman along with local performers The Glorious Sons, Miss Emily, Kasador, Abby Stewart, Tom Savage, PS I Love You, Greg Ball, Paper Ladies and Rueben deGroot.

The City said that accessible seating is available and limited lawn chair space is provided. The Utilities Kingston water buggy will be on-site, so concert-goers are encouraged to bring their reusable water bottle to reduce waste.
