The following is a selection of the most significant road closures and expected traffic delays in and around the city of Kingston for the week ending May 10, 2024. Full lists of closures and delays provided by the City of Kingston and the MTO can be viewed here and here.

Bayridge Drive will experience delays from Woodbine Road to Cataraqui Woods Drive until May 17 while contractors are completing construction restoration work in that area.

Cataraqui Woods Drive will be closed to facilitate the extension of Cataraqui Woods Drive:

  • from Andersen Drive to Sydenham Road from May 6 at 7 a.m. to May 10 at 7 p.m.
  • at Centennial Drive from May 3 at 7 a.m. to May 24 at 5 p.m.

Hillcrest Avenue will be closed from Kingscourt Avenue to Seventh Avenue until May 31 for buried infrastructure replacement. The road will be open to local traffic.

King Street from Place D’Armes to the north end of King Street will be closed until Sept. 30 for the construction of a new storm sewer and roadbed. The road will be open to local traffic.

Delays are expected along Princess Street from Bayridge Drive to Collins Bay Road until May 17 while contractors are completing construction restoration work in that area.

An eastbound lane closure is expected along Queen Street from Montreal to Sydenham until May 15, 2024. Detours will be in place for the duration of the lane closure.

University Avenue will be closed from Union to Earl until May 29, 2024, for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.

Starting April 22, 2024, the main entrance to Providence Village at 1200 Princess Street will be fully closed for construction. Motorists are asked to use the temporary entrance at 152 Phillips Street for all traffic to Providence Village and Providence Motherhouse. Details on the closure can be found here.

Delays are expected in the following areas due to contractors preparing roads for surface treatment:

  • Leeman Road
  • Maple Lawn Drive
  • Spooner Road
  • Seabrooke Road
  • Woodburn Road

A sidewalk closure will be in place along Venture Drive from Centennial Drive to Resource Road on the south side of Venture Drive to prevent pedestrian hazards arising from heavy trucks entering and exiting the soil storage facility.

Closures related to Science Rendezvous, Saturday, May 11, 2024:

From 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Tragically Hip Way will be closed to traffic from Ontario Street to King Street, as will King Street between The Tragically Hip Way and Place D’Armes. Because of the road closure for the event, there will be a lane closure on Ontario Street from Queen Street to The Tragically Hip Way.  For the duration of the Science Rendezvous Kingston event, traffic will detour along King Street.

LaSalle Causeway:

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) advises users that the LaSalle Causeway will be fully closed to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians until further notice.

Parking Disruptions

The Hanson Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is now underway. The Hanson Memorial Parking Garage is located on Brock Street just west of Wellington Street. The work will take place throughout all levels of the building, and will include efforts such as routine structural maintenance, repainting, replacement of waterproofing materials, and upgrades to the building’s mechanical/electrical systems. The work is expected to conclude in late December 2024.

The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. It is anticipated that no more than 50 per cent of the available 271 parking spaces will be closed at any time. There is also parking availability at the Chown Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the west.

The Chown Memorial parking garage will experience a full closure to accommodate the cleaning of the garage. The nearby Hanson Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages will be open during this time:

  • May 7 at 6 p.m. to May 8 at 6 a.m. – Entry will be restricted after 3 p.m. on May 7 but vehicles in the lot will be permitted to leave (payment required on exit).
