Road closures and traffic delays, week ending July 2, 2021

The following is a selection of the most significant road closures and expected traffic delays in and around the city of Kingston for the week ending July 2, 2021. Full lists of closures and delays provided by the City of Kingston and the MTO can be viewed here and here.

Albert Street will be closed from Princess to York from 7 a.m. June 29 to 5 p.m. June 30 as crews erect a tower crane.

In the Bayridge West area – Frost, Wembley, Carnaby and Fleet – drivers can expect daytime lane closures through June 30 while crews rehabilitate the roadway and curbs.

Daly Street from Weller to MacCauley will experience delays due to a lane closure from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5 to Aug. 2 for a gas main replacement.

Delays are to be expected on Gardiners Road from Princess to Fortune (South) due to lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Garrett Street near Division will be closed until June 30 for construction staging. Local traffic may access Garrett Street from University Avenue.

Delays on Grenadier Drive at Windfield Crescent will occur while construction takes place around the Kingston East Community Centre site. Flag-people will be on-site to direct traffic.

Johnson Street from Napier to College will be closed through Aug. 27 for water and sewer reconstruction by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

Lane reductions and delays are expected along King Street West from Sand Bay Lane to Country Club Drive starting early July and extending through to the end of 2022 as a contractor installs new infrastructure on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

Napier Street from Brock to Earl will be closed until July 2 to allow for water and sewer reconstruction by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

Portsmouth Avenue from Hampstead Heath to Princess Street and Princess Street to Howard Crescent are closed. Delays are expected between Old Quarry Rd and Princess as well. Detour routes will be in place. This closure is to accommodate sewer installation and improvements.

Weller Avenue from Montreal to Daly will experience delays due to a lane closure 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5 to Aug. 2 to allow a contractor to replace a gas main on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

The sidewalk on the south side of Grenadier Drive at Windfield Crescent may be restricted weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flag-person will be on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.

The lower pathway (nearest the waterfront) at 100 Foot Park pathway is now closed as the City readies to repair the lower pedestrian bridge after a regular inspection determined it is in need of repair. This pathway will be closed for a number of weeks and signage is in place to redirect pedestrians. The remainder of the park and pathway are open.

Calvin Park, Grenville Park, Hillendale, Polson Park and Strathcona Park – Expect local traffic disruptions and minor detours as a contractor prepares to line sewer mains on behalf of Utilities Kingston. The lining of the sewers will extend into summer. Roadways will be open to traffic. Please follow signage and yield to oncoming traffic as required.

La Salle Causeway – Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise of an ongoing lane closure for overnight repair work 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through July 4. One lane remains open for alternating traffic. Watch for direction from flagpeople. Motorists should expect short delays. The bridge remains open to pedestrians and marine traffic will not be affected. Direct questions to [email protected].

Highway 15:

  • Third Crossing bridge construction impacts: Highway 15 at Gore – expect delays as pieces of the main span of the bridge arrive. Trucks will turn off Highway 401 onto Highway 15 and then onto Gore to reach the bridge site.
  • At Gore Road – work is scheduled 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Expect minor delays due to lane reductions to accommodate road and active transportation infrastructure improvements. Lane reductions will take place outside of rush hour, if possible. Details: Third Crossing website.
  • Gore Road to Highway 2 – expect delays starting July 5 and until November to allow installation of a trunk water main by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

Love Kingston Marketplace disruptions:

  • Market Street will be closed from Ontario to King from April 1 to Oct. 31 to accommodate the Love Kingston Marketplace.
  • Ontario Street from Clarence to Johnson will be closed as follows:
    • 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 1
    • 4 to 11:59 p.m. July 2
    • 4 to 11:59 p.m. July 3
    • 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 4
  • Temporary road closures may also occur on Sydenham Street and Princess Street. Watch for signage.
