Road closures and traffic delays, week ending Feb. 3, 2023
The following is a selection of the most significant road closures and expected traffic delays in and around the city of Kingston for the week ending Feb 3, 2023. Full lists of closures and delays provided by the City of Kingston and the MTO can be viewed here and here.
A lane closure is expected along Front Road from Trailhead to King (West) on the North side from Jan. 26 to Feb. 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day for electrical overhead work.
Drivers should expect a closure along MacDonnell Street from Johnson to Earl from Jan. 23 to Feb. 6 for new service connections on MacDonnell Street.
Market Street from Ontario to King will be closed from Jan. 19 at 7 a.m. to Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. for the Optik interactive sound and light installation.
University Avenue will be closed from Union to Earl until Jan. 31, 2023, at 7 p.m. for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.
Wright Crescent from the south intersection of Palace to 16 Palace will be closed until Jan. 31, 2023, for construction staging for 11 Wright Cres. Please note that access to Wright Cres will be through the north intersection of Wright Cres at Palace Rd.
Pedestrians can expect a sidewalk closure on both King Street (from Princess to Queen) and Queen Street (from King to Ontario) from Jan. 23 to Feb. 28 for the development at 18 Queen St.
School Streets Initiative
The following streets are closed from 8:40 to 9:10 a.m. and 3:20 to 3:50 p.m. weekdays until June 29, 2023:
- MacDonnell Street – Earl to Hill
- Sydenham Street – Ordnance to Colborne

The following street will be closed from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays until August 28, 2023:

Waaban Crossing
“Whether you are using the Waaban Crossing and roadway to commute, run errands, visit friends and family, or simply see the view of the Cataraqui River, please remember that safety comes first,” the City of Kingston said. “Be aware of your surroundings, obey the rules of the road and follow all signs and traffic signals. Be mindful that illegal u-turns and shortcutting can pose serious safety issues to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. We understand that it will take time to get used to using the bridge and new intersections. Stay safe and be mindful of other road users, especially during poor weather conditions.”
Lower Brewers Swing Bridge – closed until further notice. Temporary bridge closure signs and detour signs have been installed. Parks Canada is continuing with their efforts to replace the bridge.
