The following is a selection of the most significant road closures and expected traffic delays in and around the city of Kingston for the week ending Feb. 23, 2024. Full lists of closures and delays provided by the City of Kingston and the MTO can be viewed here and here.

Next week Market Street will be closed:

  • On Feb. 19 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Downtown Kingston BIA activations
  • On Feb. 23 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the removal of Horizon at Springer Market Square

An eastbound lane closure is expected along Queen Street from Montreal to Sydenham until Apr. 1, 2024. Detours will be in place for the duration of the lane closure.

University Avenue will be closed from Union to Earl until May 29, 2024, for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.

LaSalle Causeway:

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) is advising motorists of an alternating lane closure on the LaSalle Causeway for major rehabilitation during the following period:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 to Tuesday, Apr. 30, 2024

During this period, one lane will be closed and one lane will remain open for alternating traffic. Two flagpersons will be on site to direct traffic, and motorists should expect short delays. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists.

PSPC encourages users to exercise caution when travelling on the bridge and thanks them for their patience.

Parking Disruptions

The Hanson Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is now underway. The work will take place throughout all levels of the building, and will include efforts such as routine structural maintenance, repainting, replacement of waterproofing materials, and upgrades to the building’s mechanical/electrical systems. The work is planned to begin the first week of February 2024 and conclude in late December 2024.

The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. It is anticipated that no more than 50 per cent of the available 271 parking spaces will be closed at any time. There is also parking availability at the Chown Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the west.

Winter parking restrictions

During January and February — when the City of Kingston typically sees more frequent snowstorms which require snow plowing and snow removal operations — a parking ban is in place each night.

Details on the winter parking restrictions are available on the City of Kingston website.

  • Not everyone knows the location of the Hanson garage or the the Robert Bruce Bruce location. The addresses/ location would be helpful.
