Kingston’s Other Homecoming

Obstacle Course, RMC, Kingston, OntarioWhen you hear the words Kingston and Homecoming used in the same sentence, it’s hard not to associate Queen’s University students, chaos on Aberdeen Street, and the Kingston City Police.  Now that our first successful Fauxcoming is behind us, it’s time to focus on Kingston’s other Homecoming celebration, commonly referred to as Reunion Weekend.  For those who don’t know, Reunion Weekend is RMC’s special brand of Homecoming, where Ex-Cadets of all ages return to their alma mater to rekindle friendships, and take part in numerous College events.  In addition to class meetings and dinners, special events such as the dedication of the Wall of Honour, and grand opening of the Birchall Pavilion, will take place on the peninsula this Saturday.

Secondarily, Reunion Weekend also marks the end of first year orientation, which culminates in various spectacles including a College Badging Parade, as well as the intense Obstacle Course.  Regarding the latter, tomorrow afternoon, rain or shine, 13 squadrons of first year RMC Cadets will challenge 13 obstacles set up around the RMC campus in an effort to achieve the best time.  Swarms of friends, family, upper-year Officer Cadets and RMC staff members will follow groups from one obstacle to another, cheering them towards the finish line.  As someone who has witnessed the Obstacle Course on a few occasions, I can honestly say that it is an entertaining, and inspiring event.  For a brief glimpse at what you can expect to see tomorrow, check out this video, which shows how the teamwork required to get last man gets over the climbing wall.  Thanks to Michael Davie for the fantastic photo shown above.
