RIDE program in Napanee finds impaired novice driver

During a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program on Deseronto Road in Greater Napanee, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a Belleville driver for driving impaired.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, a vehicle approached the checkpoint and officers determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment, according to a release from OPP dated Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021. 

During the investigation, officers conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test. The driver was subsequently arrested taken to L&A County detachment for further processing.

L&A County OPP have charged Donaro Ashley, age 31, of Belleville with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drug, and
  • Novice Driver with Blood Alcohol level above zero.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on September 7, 2021. Ashley’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
