Residents invited to help name a City of Kingston snowplow

If you were going to name a snowplow – yes, those wonderful, large vehicles that remove the snow from our roadways – what would you call it?
There’s a snowplow in Kingston that needs a name, and the City of Kingston is asking local residents for help. The Public Works department is “looking for your most fun and imaginative names to put on the side of one of its snowplows,” the City of Kingston said in a press release on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 – which just so happened to be the first day of the year when residents awoke to find snow on the ground.
Residents can submit their “cool, creative, and Kingston-specific plow names” through the Get Involved Kingston platform. Submissions will be accepted from today, Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 12 p.m. to Nov. 15, 2023, at 4 p.m., the City of Kingston said.
Following the closure for submissions, staff with the City of Kingston will select a short list of names. The community will have the opportunity to vote on their favourite snowplow name from Thursday, Nov. 22 to Wednesday, Nov. 29 on the Get Involved Kingston platform, and the winning name will be revealed on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023.
According to the City of Kingston, “snowplowing is serious business,” with City employees working “continuously in the winter to plow more than 1,800 km of roadways and 600 km of sidewalks” in the snowy weather.
Residents can learn more about the City’s snow removal services – including regulations around on-street parking during times of snowfall – on the City of Kingston website.
Submit your name suggestions for the nameless snowplow over the next two weeks and “you could be seeing it on a City plow this winter,” the City of Kingston said.
