Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) and Kingston’s Poet Laureate Jason Heroux are extending the opportunity for mentorships that will help emerging or practising poets improve their work.

Heroux was appointed Kingston’s third Poet Laureate in November 2018, and has offered poetry mentorships in partnership with the library since the spring of 2019.

“We’ve been fortunate to have the City support creators, and having the Poet Laureate serve as a creative leader in the community,” said Jake Miller, Librarian, Adult Programming. “Having Jason serve as the Poet Laureate and being able to give time to mentoring fellow poets ensures a deep talent pool for the foreseeable future.”

According to a release from KFPL, the hour-long, one-on-one online mentorship sessions will be available through April and May 2022:

  • Tuesday, Apr. 26, 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Apr. 28, 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Apr. 30, 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 3, 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday. May 5, 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 7, 2 to 3 p.m.

Take advantage of this opportunity by submitting a poetry sample to [email protected]. Heroux will contact those selected for a mentorship session, the library said.
