City Council Webinar

Mark Gerretsen, webinar, town hallLast Wednesday, Mayor Mark Gerretsen held Kingston’s first ever webinar, titled “Mayor Conversations”.  Webinars are online seminars or presentations that allow people to participate via the internet from the comfort of their own homes.  Participants can interact with the presenter by asking questions using a web conferencing program called WebEx.  The agenda for this first session included an update on Council’s progress and a reflection on the Strategic Plan 2011-2014, highlighting accomplishments and looking at what’s coming next.

This use of technology to interact with our elected officials is not a first for Kingston.  Ted Hsu has used the Telephone Town Hall format on a couple of occasions.  This method is very similar to the webinar in that it allows participants to engage and ask questions while on the phone.  The main difference between the two is that with Telephone Town Hall, your phone rings and you can either stay on the line or hang up.  With webinars, it is totally up to participants to log in, so this week we want to know:

We’d like to know more about your experience if you did log in.  How informative was it?  Were you able to have your voice heard?  Is this something you think you would participate in again and would you encourage others to do the same?  Drop off your comments below.
