Queen’s University names new Principal
Queen’s University has named Patrick Deane as its 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Deane had previously been the Vice-Principal of Academics at Queen’s University from 2005 to 2009. He then took over as President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University in 2010.
Dr. Deane replaces Principal Daniel Woolf, who had been the university’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor since January of 2009.
The appointment followed a months-long search process. The university says a Joint Board-Senate Principal Search Committee assessed candidates from across Canada, and some from overseas, before recommending Principal Designate Deane to the Board of Trustees.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Designate Deane will officially assume the role of Principal and Vice-Chancellor on July 1, 2019. Daniel Woolf’s second five-year term as Principal and Vice-Chancellor ends the day before, on June 30, 2019.
